Wind Industry Profile of
Hydraulics: Swapping proportional valves made incredibly easy
Controls for proportional valves are used in hydraulics when it is necessary to precisely and reliably control large capacities and forces. In the shipping sector the controls ensure that winches and cranes can raise and lower their loads at a consistent speed. Industrial applications include controlling moulding presses, and in wind turbines with a hydraulic pitch system, the valve controls adjust the position of the rotor blades to suit the prevailing wind conditions.
Up to eight hydraulic valves can be individually controlled with a single PVA200module from Bachmann Electronic. They are also suitable for connecting much larger valves, in that they can work with a current of up to 2.5 amps.
Rapid configuration even at full speed
Whether on board ship or in an industrial plant, it must be possible to exchange valves while they are running, quickly and regardless of manufacturer or type. Thanks to the latest configuration tools in Bachmann’s own engineering software SolutionCentre and in the web configurator, the valve control’s parameter settings are incredibly straightforward and do not require any other special tools or specialist knowledge. The technician on site simply selects the preconfigured replacement valve in the software program and the control does the rest.
High accuracy
The current-regulated activation of the PVA200 module prevents any temperature differences from influencing the valve position. The low target/actual value difference under five milliamps also ensures a high repeat accuracy. The current is fully configurable, whereby the maximum flow rate can be defined dependent on the process. There are up to 20 sampling points available for correcting the valve characteristic, which enables very precise linearization with the least possible effort.
