SCADA International rebrands as Opoura

SILKEBORG, DENMARK – December 17, 2024 – After more than 18 years of SCADA International, as of today, the Danish software provider begins a new chapter as Opoura. The transition follows an impressive year of record growth, including four acquisitions, bringing in a long list of new capabilities, colleagues, and know-how, thus expanding the group’s offerings to the energy industry.

In 2022, SCADA International partnered with private equity firm Magnesium Capital, which accelerated the company’s steady growth and strengthened its focus on empowering the energy transition. This rapid progress the company has experienced in recent years has made it clear that the SCADA name, tied to the term Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, no longer fully captures the full scope of what the company delivers today.

Thomas Bagger, CEO at SCADA International, explains:

“When we founded SCADA International in 2006, our ambition was to tackle renewable challenges related to SCADA by offering specialized expertise in both hardware and consultancy. So, a name like SCADA International seemed fitting. As the industry changed and customers took greater control of their operations and data, we also evolved by delivering independent monitoring and control software. In that way, our journey has always been shaped by advancing alongside our customers’ needs and evolving market conditions.

For Thomas Bagger, the new year marks the perfect occasion for turning a page and introducing a new name and corporate identity:

“Through this journey – and with the new companies joining us this year – we’ve grown into something much bigger than when we first started. It feels only right that our name reflects this development. That’s why I’m excited and proud to introduce Opoura – a name that reflects how far we have come and the wide range of solutions and services we now offer.”

New identity signals strong focus on optimized performance through partnerships

The new Opoura brand is rooted in the company’s Nordic renewable heritage and reflects its commitment to its customers and the energy transition. Opoura is a contraction of Optimize Performance of Your Assets, highlighting what the five companies have in common.

Optimizing the customers’ performance is the red thread throughout the companies’ business areas, whether through intelligent software and data integration, hardware and installation, or digital services. According to Thomas Bagger, this is what will guide the company going forward:

For years, we have been known as experts in SCADA solutions, but now we want to highlight that our expertise extends far beyond that. We can help customers optimize power plant performance in multiple areas, meaning we can be a trusted partner across the entire value chain.”

The Opoura logo features brackets inspired by the coding world, forming an X – a symbol of partnership in Nordic Runic tradition. It also signifies connection, which has become increasingly central to the energy industry in recent years. And this combination is exactly what characterizes Opoura and its approach:

“We wanted to find a brand identifier that connected us as one unified company and also connected us to our customers. I think the brackets are perfect in illustrating our approach to embracing partnerships and helping solve the problems of connectivity, no matter where in the value chain they originate.”

New name – but not new to the industry

The rebranding process entails that the four former group companies – Sweet Geeks, Next Consult, Quantec Systems GmbH, and SCADA International – will unite as one brand. NovoGrid will continue for now as Part of Opoura.

Despite its new name, Opoura will continue its business as usual. Headquartered in Denmark and with a strong presence in North America and Europe, the company enables customers to connect, control, and commercialize their assets in the increasingly electrified energy landscape.

“We are still the same dedicated team – just a much larger one with a broader range of expertise. At Opoura, we want to ignite the energy transition and are committed to doing so in a smart, innovative way. I’m excited to see how this vision will come to life,” concludes Thomas Bagger.
