AWEA Newsticker - American Wind Energy Association applauds U.S. DEPT. of the Interior's new offshore wind initiative
AWEA CEO Denise Bode released the following statement in response to today's announcement from Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar of 'Smart from the Start,' a major new initiative to accelerate the responsible siting and development of wind energy projects along the Atlantic coast:
"AWEA applauds Secretary Salazar for his leadership in offshore wind. Efforts to rationalize the multi-step permitting process for offshore wind projects are essential for Eastern states to be able to take advantage of this excellent resource. As the pipeline of projects begin to move forward more rapidly, the environmental and economic benefits of offshore wind, including manufacturing facilities and associated jobs, can be realized."
AWEA is the national trade association of America's wind industry, with more than 2,500 member companies, including global leaders in wind power and energy development, wind turbine manufacturing, component and service suppliers, and the world's largest wind power trade show. AWEA is the voice of wind energy in the U.S., promoting renewable energy to power a cleaner, stronger America. Look up information on wind energy at the AWEA Web site.
