Texas, with more than 40,500 MW of installed capacity and more than 16,000 wind turbines in operation, will end 2024 as the state with the greatest energy contribution, with 28% of all wind energy produced.

The growth in demand for energy consumption by data centers used for AI information processing, manufacturing plants and Direct Air Capture (DAC) facilities will make it necessary to create new wind farms to increase the contribution of renewable sources to the energy mix.

Sarens has a long-standing commitment to the development of renewable energy projects around the world, and since 2024 has two new branches in Texas from which it offers the machinery and the human and technical equipment necessary to meet the needs of public and private entities in the onshore wind sector.

Onshore wind energy will end 2024 as the fourth largest energy source in the USA with an installed capacity of more than 153GW, an increase of 6.5GW more than in 2023, and having beaten for two months in a row - March and April - its historical production record, surpassing coal burning, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration (IEA). As a result, the USA is now the country with the second highest wind power production, behind only China, with more than 441GW installed.

According to IEA forecasts, from 2025 to 2030 there will be a significant increase in renewable energy demand in the USA, especially driven by the consumption of data centers dedicated to processing information used by artificial intelligence (AI) -44GW-, manufacturing plants -11GW- and Direct Air Capture (DAC) units -2.7GW-, which will make it essential to install new wind farms to supplement energy production in the country.

In a context where it is estimated that more than 80% of the turbines ordered in 2023 will start to be delivered in 2025, Sarens, world leader in heavy lifting, engineered transport and crane rental services, and one of the world's leading players in onshore and offshore wind turbine installation, is aiming to provide the equipment and machinery necessary for public and private industries to move towards a fully sustainable energy market. With more than 60 years of experience in hundreds of projects around the world, Sarens is positioned as a key partner in the current and future transition process.

As a sign of its commitment to wind energy in the USA, Sarens has, as of 2024, two new units specialising in support for the development of new wind projects and the maintenance of existing turbines. Located in Odessa and Beaumont (Texas), the two Sarens branches offer a much closer contact with local companies and institutions, both public and private, that require a specialised service in onshore wind and the choice of the right machinery for the magnitude of the project to be carried out.

Wind power production in the USA is estimated to have grown by 46% since 2019, and by 135% in the last 10 years. Texas is the state with the highest production, with 40.5GW installed and more than 16,000 turbines in operation, making this state already contributing 28% of all onshore wind power in the country. Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas and California round out the top five states.

Sarens is backed by its international experience in the development of wind projects all over the world, which it transfers to its engineering teams in the USA. Thus, it has worked in installations of international relevance such as Karusa and Soetwater in South Africa; in Sweden, at the Markbygden wind farm; in the transport work for the foundation bases of the new offshore wind farm in Saint Brieuc, off the French Brittany coast, where it has been able to transport loads of more than 1,150 tons; or more recently, in the new Coastal Virginia offshore wind farm, off the coast of Virginia Beach, where it has collaborated with the reception and loading out of monopiles and transition pieces of 176 turbines, as well as the jackets and topsides for the three offshore substations that will make up the farm.
