Taiwan - Taitra assists Taiwan companies tap wind power business
To help Taiwan firms tap the immense business opportunities in wind-generation, the government-funded Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will sponsor a symposium dubbed "2008 Taiwan International Wind Power Generation" on Nov. 26 at the Taipei International Convention Centre.
The recent easing in international crude oil prices has not slowed global industrialized economies from looking for alternative energies. With solar energy and wind power generation both being rapidly developed, the latter form currently lags the former by 4,385 MW; while mainland China may be one of the fastest to grow its wind power industry.
TAITRA said it has invited world-leading makers of wind turbines to take part in the symposium, including the biggest globally-Vestas of Denmark; the world`s fifth-largest Suzlon from India; and mainland China`s largest Jinfong Technologies; while the keynote speakers will include Jorm Hammer, Vestas general manager, and Suzlon India chairman Rohit Modi, who will address the newest trends for the wind power industry.
So far more than 400 interested research institutions and firms in Taiwan have registered to participate in the symposium.
Taitra said a recent survey by a researcher shows mainland China and India to be the two most promising Asian markets for developing wind power business. China is currently the world`s No. 2 in terms of newly installed capacities for wind power generation, and is expected to become a top-two nation in terms of overall installed capacities by 2012.
