WWEA welcomes new member ENERCON
Bonn, 14 February 2024 (WWEA) - WWEA is delighted to welcome its new member as both organisations share the vision of a world powered by renewable energy, with wind power as a cornerstone. ENERCON joins WWEA's membership, which spans over 100 countries on all continents and covers all wind energy sectors.
WWEA and ENERCON share common goals, particularly in strengthening domestic supply chains, promoting decentralised application models for wind energy and encouraging strong local support for wind farms through participatory approaches.
WWEA President Dr Irfan Mirza: "It is a great privilege for me to welcome ENERCON as our first new member since taking over the WWEA Presidency a few weeks ago. As one of the world's leading turbine manufacturers, ENERCON will be a valuable asset and an integral part of our global wind community. WWEA's new strategy focuses on strengthening the local benefits of wind energy, from community involvement to the role of local companies. ENERCON has already proven to be a champion in these key areas. Therefore, membership comes at the right time and we look forward to working closely together to accelerate the transformation to a renewable future.”
ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer adds: “Since its foundation, WWEA has been committed to small and medium-sized operators in the global wind business. These enterprises form the basis of our sector’s success. They are crucial to speed up energy transition and decarbonisation together with the big players. One important next step in this process will be regional cooperations between wind onshore operators and energy consumers – also in the industry. In this area, too, we expect valuable ideas and impetus from the WWEA community and are happy to provide support as a partner.”
WWEA Secretary General Stefan Gsänger: "It is crucial for WWEA's daily work that we work closely with practitioners in the wind sector. With ENERCON as one of the world's technology leaders in wind turbines, we can build on even more expertise and another important perspective in our global membership. We look forward to working closely together in the future, be it on technical issues, policy instruments or the socio-economic dynamics of wind energy. ENERCON has great experience in working with local investors - this will be of great interest to many of our members.”
