Germany - Series production of Conergy PowerWind 56 from January 2008

- Third wind turbine set up from internal production in Bremerhaven
- 5,000 m² site occupied for series production

Bremerhaven - Conergy Wind GmbH, a 100% subsidiary company of Hamburg-based Conergy AG, erected the third PowerWind 56 wind turbine on Wednesday, immediately adjacent to the new production hall in Bremerhaven. The turbine, with a hub height of 71 metres, achieves a peak output of 900 kilowatts. For the year’s production of more than 100 turbines in 2008, Conergy has already contractually secured the necessary main components from renowned suppliers.

Series production from the start of 2008
"With the new 5,000 m² production facility in Bremerhaven we have already created more than 30 jobs solely for the series production of the turbines, which are certified under IEC Type Class IIA," explains Dr. Klaus Pötter, Technical Managing Director of Conergy Wind GmbH. Apart from a small parts warehouse, the workshop consists of two independent production bays, in which two assembly lines can be operated in parallel. As a result, the factory ranks amongst the world’s most modern production facilities for wind turbines. It is envisaged that the energy supply needs for the building complex will be met predominantly by a variety of renewable energies.

The federal state of Bremen and the city of Bremerhaven are subsidising the work through the BIS Bremerhavener Gesellschaft für Investitionsförderung, the region’s company for investment promotion and urban development, to the value of EUR 1.65 million and in addition they are providing support for the development of the PowerWind 56.

Major interest from international project developers
The deliberate restriction of the turbine’s dimensions also enables difficult logistic requirements to be met, so that the PowerWind 56 is also suitable for regions which large multi megawatt turbines can reach only with major difficulty or indeed not at all. The components in this output class are also more readily available. "We are already picking up strong interest on the part of international project developers, investors and energy producers. These positive reactions from the industry underline the competitiveness of our turbine," Stefan Heczko, commercial Managing Director of Conergy Wind GmbH, notes with satisfaction. "The trendsetting cooling concept, using three cooling systems independently of each other, creates the opportunity to operate in difficult climate conditions and at temperatures from -20 to +45 degrees Celsius," Heczko continued. Thanks to the use of a net converter in the megawatt class, Conergy PowerWind 56 benefits from the experience gained from the multi megawatt class and is thus also in a position to generate maximal yield even at low wind strength. The long established principle of the modular dismountable drive rod acts as the basic concept of the turbine and thus guarantees the highest level of service-friendly and maintenance-friendly operation.

In addition to supplying international clients in the wind industry, large projects of EPURON GmbH, another subsidiary of Conergy AG, are being equipped with the PowerWind 56.

Apart from the wind turbine now erected in Bremerhaven, Conergy Wind GmbH has already erected two further successfully-operating turbines, in Bremerhaven and in Monticelli, Italy.
