Statkraft Ireland was joined by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney on Friday (6 October), for the official opening of its new office in Cork Airport Business Park.

The Norwegian state-owned company, which on 1 October also celebrated five years in Ireland, has witnessed significant expansion of its workforce and project portfolio over the past five years.

The number of employees working for the company has more than tripled to 126 since 2018, when Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, acquired the Irish and UK wind development businesses of the Element Power Group.

Since then, Statkraft has invested approximately €450million into the Irish business. Statkraft is now one of the biggest renewable energy developers in Ireland with more than a 4GW pipeline of onshore, offshore, solar, battery and grid services projects.

Statkraft Ireland recently relocated from its original office in Cork Airport Business Park to a significantly larger premises nearby to accommodate its rapidly growing workforce.

Minister Coveney also cut the ribbon on Statkraft’s first Cork office, when the building was officially opened in June 2019.

Speaking at the event, Minister Coveney said: “It’s a very welcome feeling to be back at Statkraft to see the company’s investment in Cork and Ireland go from strength to strength. Statkraft has access to top talent in Cork and is proving to be a vital cog in Ireland’s green transition. I want to congratulate everyone at the company and wish you onward success and growth.”

Kevin O’Donovan, Managing Director of Statkraft Ireland, said: “It’s great to welcome Minister Coveney back for the official opening of our new office. Over the past five years, we’ve seen incredible growth in the Irish team, with almost 130 people now working across our offices in Cork and Tullamore. The success of Statkraft Ireland to date is a testament to the hard work and dedication of a talented group of people committed to the rollout of renewables to mitigate climate change and strengthen Ireland’s energy security.

“Statkraft is committed to supporting Ireland meet its renewable energy targets through the rollout of a diverse range of renewable energy technologies – onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery and grid services projects. The deployment of each one of these technologies is also vital if we want to achieve the electrification of heat and transport across the country between now and 2030, and beyond.”
