Denmark resumes planning for four more offshore wind farms

Fearing violations of EU law, Denmark had initially suspended all 33 offshore wind projects under the Open Door programme in a surprising move at the beginning of February (Windfair covered the story here). At the beginning of March, planning for two of these projects was resumed. Now four more will follow, as the Danish Energy Agency announced.

The planning for the offshore wind farms Jammerland Bugt, Lillebælt South Offshore Wind Farm, Omø South Offshore Wind Farm and Nordre Flint Offshore Wind Farm will be resumed. The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply, in dialogue with the State Aid Secretariat, has now determined that the preliminary assessment permits granted by the Danish Energy Agency in the period 2014-2019 for the Jammerland Bugt, Lillebælt South, Omø South and Nordre Flint offshore wind farms do not violate EU law. Likewise the projects' possible future construction and electricity generation permits will not violate EU law. For all four projects, a permit for a feasibility study was already granted several years ago, i.e. at a time when the market situation was different from today.

The remaining 27 projects are still under review.
