Chinese company cracks 18 MW mark

Chinese company CSSC Haizhuang Wind Power has unveiled the nacelle of the new prototype of the world's largest offshore wind turbine, the H260-18MW.

The H260-18MW turbine has a rotor diameter of 260 metres and a single output of 18 MW. This makes it the largest and most powerful wind turbine currently under development.

The turbine has a swept area of 53,000 square metres, which is equivalent to about seven normal football fields. The company said it can generate 44.8 kilowatt hours of electricity per revolution at full wind speed, and a single turbine can produce more than 74 million kWh of clean electricity per year, which can meet the annual electricity consumption of 40,000 homes.
