Statkraft’s EV charging business Mer strengthens position in the UK

Mer acquires Elmtronics, a supplier and installer of EV charging infrastructure, taking further actions to accelerate the electric transition in the UK.

The acquisition is bringing economies of scale into the development of EV charging solutions by providing better value to existing and new customers. Elmtronics, established in 2016, provides charging infrastructure for UK fleets, workplaces, public sector bodies, and homes to support the transition to electric mobility. Elmtronics works nationwide in the UK with some of the largest councils, NHS Trusts, and private companies to design, install and maintain their electric vehicle charging solutions.

“The acquisition of Elmtronics is the very proof of Mer’s step-change ambitions to accelerate the EV transition in the UK. While Mer UK’s expertise and focus lies mostly within the area of public fast charging, Elmtronics mainly focuses on fleet and workplace charging. In combination, these efforts will give Mer a significant stronger position in the UK market. I look forward to working with our new colleagues and the rest of the organization to make sustainable electric mobility easy and accessible to everyone,” said Kristoffer Thoner, CEO, Mer Group.

Mer, owned by Europe’s largest renewable energy producer Statkraft, combines the best of both worlds with expertise from the EV charging industry and renewable energy sector. In the UK, Mer offers electric vehicle charging to businesses and local authorities. Mer also has operations in Norway, Sweden and Germany, and the mission is to make sustainable electric mobility easy and accessible to everyone.

The acquisition is pending approval of customary authority approval, which is expected to conclude late January 2022.
