More than 1,000 ACCIONA employees participated this year in the volunteer activity that the company organises every year, which consists of workshops taught by company employees to students aged 6 to 10 with the aim of making them aware of the importance of sustainable development.
During the eight editions of this program that have taken place since 2012, more than 4,500 volunteers have taught sustainability workshops to more than 75,000 students in over 23 countries.
This year, ACCIONA volunteers taught about 16,000 students in 18 countries (Spain, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ecuador, EE.UU, United Arab Emirates, India, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, South Africa and New Zealand).
Through games, crafts and other activities carried out during the Volunteer Day, and with the help of a character created by the company named Bopi, ACCIONA has sought in this new edition, to raise awareness among schoolchildren of the active role they can play in achieving a more sustainable world. By implementing small responsible actions in their day-to-day lives, they can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and to creating a better future for all. Some of the concepts taught include: poverty, climate change, hunger, water scarcity, inequalities and sustainable cities.
In addition, for the first time the initiative will become a carbon neutral event, compensating the emissions of all the volunteers who participated in the initiative.
