The Secretary of State of Texas (US) visits Siemens Gamesa's facilities in Vizcaya
A delegation of business and political representatives from the State of Texas (USA), headed up by its Secretary of State, Rolando Burgoa Pablos, has visited Siemens Gamesa's corporate head offices in the technology park in Zamudio (Vizcaya). The Vizcaya authorities were represented by Asier Alea Castaños, who is in charge of tourism and external promotion, while Siemens Gamesa was represented by Mark Albenze, CEO of Services; Borja Negro, Director of Wind Farm Solutions for the onshore business; and Jon Lezamiz, Director Institutional Relations.
The US delegation got to see the company's latest technological developments first hand, and also learned about projects executed in Texas, one of the states with the highest growth potential. Texas has emerged as the US state with the most installed capacity: it currently boasts a base of over 21 GW (roughly 12,000 turbines) with another almost 5 GW under construction. As a result, wind power accounts for approximately 12% of electricity demand in Texas.
The visit is part of a trip to Spain organised by the Provincial Council of Vizcaya, which also involves the government, the Chamber of Commerce and Texas companies keen to establish contacts with companies from flagship sectors such as the energy and automotive industries.
During the visit, Jon Lezamiz thanked the delegation for their interest and underscored the fact that “our company wants to continue to strengthen its ties with Texas, one of the economies to have committed most significantly to wind power”.
Rolando Burgoa Pablos, for his part, responsible for attracting investment to Texas and for the international expansion of Texas companies, highlighted the delegation's visit as "an opportunity to establish new friendships and new avenues for trade".
