Australia – South Australia to be centre for wind energy generation
South Australia will be entrenched as a centre of wind power in Australia with the Australian Gas Light Company to build a major wind farm north of Adelaide. The company said its 95MW, $236 million plant would be built at Hallett in the mid-north, next to its existing 180MW gas-fired power station. The news prompted the SA Government to lift from 15 to 20 per cent its target of supplying the states electricity needs from renewable energy. It also was welcomed by environmental group Greenpeace for its ability to supply power to more than 50,000 homes without adding to greenhouse pollution. Construction is due to begin in September with commissioning expected in December next year
