Wind Industry Profile of

Pakistan: Nordex right on course

New customer places 50 megawatts order for 20 wind turbines

Uptrend in South Asia: Nordex SE has obtained another order in Pakistan. The manufacturer is supplying 20 N100/2500 turbines with a total capacity of 50 megawatts for the Gul Ahmed wind farm. The owner of this project is a new customer, Gul Ahmed Wind Power Limited, a subsidiary of Gul Ahmed Energy Limited.

The wind farm is situated in a semi-desert area in the south of Pakistan, near the city of Jhimpir and the Arabian Sea, where temperatures climb as high as 44 degrees. As for other projects in Pakistan, Nordex is supplying the "Hot-Climate" version of the turbines, which are especially designed for such environmental conditions. This version of the N100/2500 makes it possible to obtain the largest possible energy yield at this IEC-2 site.

This call-off means that Nordex has converted five frame contracts for 50 megawatts each into firm orders. "This underlines the dependability of our partners and the confidence placed in us," says Nordex CEO Lars Bondo Krogsgaard.

The Gul Ahmed family has been operating in Pakistan in different areas of industry, including textile industry and infrastructure, for more than 60 years. Gul Ahmed Energy Limited, an existing 136 megawatts Independent Power Producer company, has entered the growing renewables market in Pakistan. Nordex has been active in Pakistan since 2012 and has so far installed turbines with a total capacity of around 150 megawatts. The manufacturer is the market leader, with a share of almost 60 percent of the still young but expanding Pakistan wind energy market.
