Wind Industry Profile of

Germany: Chransdorf YieldCo Project fully commissioned

Almost ten months after the start of construction, the commissioning work on the 24th and, thus, the last wind power turbine of the Chransdorf wind farm in Brandenburg was finalised.

From now on, the wind farm with a nominal capacity of 57.6 MW will supply green electricity to about 57,000 households. In addition, the entire wind farm is now incorporated into the YieldCo established by PNE and, as the largest individual project in the company's history, it is an essential part of the YieldCo portfolio, which is expected to achieve a volume of about 150 MW by the end of 2016.

Markus Lesser, Chief Operating Officer of PNE WIND AG, explains: "Owing to coordinated and good cooperation of all parties involved, it was possible to finalise this project so quickly and successfully. Many thanks and great praise go to the colleagues of the Brandenburg Forestry State Agency (LFB), the German Federal Agency for Real Estate Administration (BImA) as well as the employees of the city of Großräschen and the municipality of Altdöbern for their enormous and dedicated efforts, which have made this kind of project possible in the first place."

"It has turned out that the implementation of such a wind power project in forests works quite well, provided that the necessary know-how is available and cooperation is good", says Thomas Schrader, Head of the Doberlug-Kirchhain Service Unit of LFB. "For us, it was the first project of this kind. The learning effects resulting from the work will be of benefit to future projects."

Franz von Plettenberg of the Federal Agency for Real Estate Administration adds: "The construction phase was particularly impressive. In less than eleven months, all 24 wind power turbines, including access routes, foundations and transformer stations were erected, about 170 km of cables were laid and the former Bronkow missile base was removed. Further nature conservation measures of the comprehensive compensation catalogue will still be implemented in the Chransdorf forest, thus increasing the biodiversity of this area."
