Denmark - Siemens sets up 6 MW wind turbine prototype
Siemens Energy has installed its first 6 MW wind turbine as a prototype of the next generation offshore wind energy. The SWT-6.0-120 wind turbines with rotor diameter of 120 meters uses direct drive and rotor technology in its location in Høvsøre wind farm, Denmark.
It is setting a new low weight standard for large offshore wind turbines with the nacelle and rotor weight less than 350 tonnes together. Siemens believes the low weight will help reduce the cost of offshore wind power plants.
The company is testing and validating the performance of the new wind turbine before it is officially launched for sale in the near future.
