Exhibition Ticker - Hannover Exhibition - Conclusion from the American Wind Energy Association

The offshore wind farm industry in the United States can certainly benefit from lessons learned by the European offshore wind power industry

The highly successful 64th annual Hannover Messe trade show drew to a close last Friday in Germany at the largest exhibition center in the world.

Before heading back to the States, American Wind Energy Association Director of Business Development Jeff Anthony participated in one of the 60 educational sessions offered for Messe attendees. The strategic dialogue on Investments in the Offshore Wind Power Industry, sponsored by the German state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), was composed of a German-American expert panel who elucidated the prospects for offshore wind farm in the global marketplace.

Anthony, who provided an overview of the state of offshore wind turbines in the U.S., highlighted the vast offshore resources here, recent developments in federal siting and permitting guidelines, and the enormous potential for growth. Several opportunities for European-American cooperative efforts were explored in this three-hour session.

“The offshore wind farm industry in the United States can certainly benefit from lessons learned by the European offshore wind power industry,” Anthony said. “We intend to offer an exploratory session like this at the AWEA OFFSHORE WINDPOWER 2011 Conference.” That event takes place Oct. 11-13 in Baltimore, Md.

This year's Hannover Messe was the most successful in 10 years, with over 6,500 companies from 65 countries displaying and sharing their innovative industry concepts.

At the event’s closing press conference, Deutsche Messe Managing Board Chairman Dr. Wolfram von Fritsch said, “"This year's event in Hannover has given industry a real boost, powering it up to drive the economic recovery. This Hannover Messe has generated even more momentum for industry as the force behind the economic upswing."
