Converteam supplies 1000th Prowind converter to REpower
Berlin, April 2011 – Converteam Berlin supplies its 1000th Prowind converter to REpower. For almost ten years, Converteam has been supporting REpower Systems AG by supplying power electronics, which feed electrical energy onto grid, ensuring the reliable delivery of the power generated by the REpower's wind turbines.
"In recent years, Converteam and REpower have been working closely together", noted Jeroen Kossen, Director of Purchasing at REpower, "REpower expects top quality and performance, Converteam is continuously striving for the highest quality standards in order to achieve optimum results. We have a perfect match here, we are looking forward to continued cooperation with Converteam."
“The energy generated by these one thousand wind turbines at full power is roughly equivalent to capacity of two large size nuclear reactors. As such, this milestone represents a key contributor to the green energy mix. We see the 1000th converter as a proof of the renewed trust that our customer is placing in us for delivering reliable and high quality products”, said Dr. Georg Möhlenkamp, VP Systems and Drives at Converteam."
ProWind frequency converters with a power of 1.5MW to 3.2MW are used around the globe. They fulfill the latest grid connection requirements and are ideal for applications under difficult conditions thanks to their high availability. With their Fault Ride Through (FRT) technology, they are able to supply the active and reactive power demanded by grid operators even during strong grid fluctuations. The generator inverter system thus stabilizes the grid and enables stable operation of the wind turbine. The compliance of REpower’s MM series turbines with the most demanding criteria of the System Service Ordinance (SDLWindV) was certified in 2010 by Germanischer Lloyd. This turbine, equipped with Converteam's ProWind converter system, was the first wind turbine with a doubly fed generator to get such a certification.
Converteam is the world's leading independent manufacturer of frequency converters for wind power installations. As a pioneer in the renewables segment, Converteam has been operating for more than 16 years as an independent supplier of electric equipment for wind farms. Every year, the company delivers frequency converters for 5GW of installed wind energy.
The Converteam Group is a world leader in power conversion engineering. Building on over a century of experience, it is firmly placed at the leading edge of technology and innovation with a global reputation for excellence in the conversion of electrical energy. Converteam develops and provides solutions built around three core components: electrical machines, variable speed drives, automation and process control. It serves specialized sectors as well as its six core mar-kets in Renewables, Power Generation, Oil & Gas and Offshore, Marine, Industry and Services.
