Austrailia to build its largest wind farm

Project partners Hydro Tasmania and Spanish power company EHN (Oceania)

Australia: Australian and Spanish power companies have completed preparations for the construction of Australia's biggest wind farm, officials said on Monday. Project partners Hydro Tasmania and Spanish power company EHN (Oceania) said finance arrangements and other agreements had been finalised allowing construction to begin next week of the 120 million dollar (84 million US) Cathedral Rocks wind farm.

"We expect the project to be completed within the next 12 months," Hydro Tasmania chief executive Geoff Willis said. The project in South Australia will comprise 33 wind turbines and have a generation capacity of 66 megawatts, enough to provide electricity to about 25,000 homes, Hydro said. The facility is scheduled to be hooked into South Australia's electricity grid early next year.
