USA - Maryland PSC Approves 50-MW Wind Farm
In a milestone for wind power in the state, the Maryland Public Service Commission approved a wind energy project being developed by Synergics Wind Energy in Garratt County.
There are currently no wind facilities in operation or under construction in Maryland. Construction on Synergics’s 50-MW wind farm, to be located on Backbone Mountain, is expected to begin in the spring.
“This is a very exciting day for renewable energy in Maryland,” said Frank Maisano, a spokesman for wind developers in the state who has worked closely on the Synergics project. “After a long wait, Maryland will have wind projects online in 2010, providing clean energy to a community, state and environment that are demanding it.”
