Mexico - Gamesa to install 10 MW of wind power
Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica has entered into an agreement with Turbo Power Baja Energy for the supply of a total of five Gamesa G87-2.0 MW wind turbines, amounting to the installation of a power output of 10 MW.
The wind turbines will be installed on the Rumorosa wind farm in the State of Baja, California. The scope of the agreement includes the supply of the wind turbines, their installation and start-up, as well as their operation and maintenance. Assembly work is expected to start in the second half of 2009.
The agreement, the first for Gamesa with the Mexican wind energy developer, was reached after Turbo Power Baja Energy was awarded the first phase of an international tender organized by the Baja California State Government. It strengthens Gamesa's position in the Mexican market, where the company has installed 186 MW, the bulk of the installed wind power output in the country.
From an environmental viewpoint, the annual production of the installation's 10 MW will replace 2,150 tons of petroleum equivalent (TPE) per year and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 15,000 tons of CO2 [carbon dioxide] a year.
Gamesa has installed more than 16,000 MW of wind energy around the world. The company has production centers located in Europe, China and the United States and an international workforce of about 7,000 employees.
