Pakistan - PKR100 million wind power plant to be inaugurated
Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Water & Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the first wind power plant in nation costing PKR100 million will be inaugurated on April 19, 2009. The power plant in Jhimpir will produce 50 megawatt (MW) of electricity. Ashraf said more wind power plants will be installed in Gharo and Jhimpir areas in Sindh, and the power produced will be supplied at 12.1 cent per unit.
Ashraf said the power crisis have negative impact over the economy. “In Sindh and Balochistan 4000 houses have been electrified with solar energy,” Ashraf said. Indus Sugar Mill Rajanpur (11 MW), Ghotki Sugar Mill (12 MW), JW Sugar Mill, Rahimyar Khan (11 MW), Ashraf Sugar Mill Bahawalnagar (12 MW) etc will generate power and their cases have been forwarded to NEPRA to determine the power tariff, Ashraf added.
