News Release from American Clean Power Association (ACP)
Wind Industry Profile of
02/28/2008
USA - Wind Power Supply Chain Workshop
Wind energy production is growing at an average rate of 29% a year (with 45% growth in 2007) and if this continues to accelerate, industry experts believe that wind has the potential to supply 20% of U.S. electricity by 2030. This will require the manufacture of 100,000 new wind turbines in that timeframe.
This unprecedented growth is bringing major supply chain challenges to the industry while it aggressively “ramps up” domestic manufacturing of wind turbines and their components. As a result, there is significant opportunity for state and local governments, manufacturers and component suppliers across all industries to help feed the supply chain and grow their business.
Program Co-Sponsors
- American Wind Energy Association
- IOWA Department of Economic Development
Topics
- Introduction to Wind Energy, aka Wind Energy 101
- The technology behind wind turbines
- The state of the wind industry, yesterday and today
- Rapid growth and economic potential of wind projects
- Challenges and constraints within the supply chain, including transportation and power transmission issues
- Opportunities to address supply chain constraints
- Who's who in the production of wind turbines
Program schedule and topics subject to change. Visit www.awea.org/events/supplychain08/ for more information.
Who Should Attend?
- Wind turbine manufacturers
- Manufacturers and suppliers of a wide range of mechanical
and electrical components, including generators, hydraulics, sensors, hardware, drives, power distribution, composites, cabling, big steel, castings, forgings, bearings, gearboxes.
- Turbine component manufacturers seeking to establish
operations in the U.S.
- Construction equipment and suppliers such as cranes, concrete, rebar
- Transportation companies supporting large scale items over land, rail and sea
- State and local offices of economic development
- Wind developers
- Law firms
- Consultants
Online registration etc can be found here www.awea.org/events/supplychain08/registration.html
Exhibition Opportunities
Exhibition is open to large turbine and gearbox manufacturers. A limited number of exhibition spots are available. Act now to secure a booth so that you may reach potential suppliers that can help address supply chain issues.
Contact Lori Rugh at lrugh@awea.org or (661) 821-2149 for more information about exhibiting.
Why Attend AWEA Events?
The revenue generated from AWEA events is put right back into services that promote and advance the wind industry. Examples include promoting favorable policies (such as the PTC and RPS) through work with our government legislators, wind visibility campaigns, communicating and educating America on the benefits of wind energy, addressing environmental concerns, pushing for advanced transmission access for wind, and many others. Only AWEA puts your dollars to work on advancing the wind energy industry.
