USA - GE receives contract for wind turbines from Noble
GE Energy has received a contract worth approximately $650 million to provide 333 wind turbines to Essex, Conn.-based Noble Environmental Power for new and expansion projects in New York and Texas that will add nearly 500 MW of capacity to the country's renewable energy supply.
The new agreement is the fourth wind turbine supply contract that GE and Noble have signed over the past three years, for up to 877 1.5 MW wind turbines.
The wind turbines covered under the latest agreement will be shipped during 2009, with most of the projects expected to enter commercial operation by the end of that year, according to GE. They will support the renewable portfolio standards for the states where they are located.
"By again selecting our 1.5 MW wind turbines, Noble will be able to leverage spare parts, knowledge and experience across the entire fleet," says Victor Abate, vice president for renewables at GE.
