Government releases provisional 2016 electricity generation data in Energy Trends / Coal generation fell nearly 60%, yet renewable generation down as well / Data underscores urgent need to build new electricity generation capacity
Government data released today indicates a near 60% reduction in coal power generation between 2015 and 2016. Electricity generated from renewable sources also declined, due to weather and outages. Domestic electricity use fell 1% between 2015 and 2016 despite similar weather patterns, indicating an increase in efficiency.
