Australia - Roof turbine could slash energy bills
Plans have been lodged for an unique roof-mounted wind turbine in the heart of one of Perth’s industrial estates. Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has applied to Perth and Kinross Council for the small turbine, which will be based at Dunkeld Road, Perth, and measures four square metres. The move is part of SSE’s £293,000 agreement with Edinburgh-based Renewable Devices Swift Turbines Ltd, which is over a 30-month period. And, as a result, SSE expects to place nearly 2000 orders, worth up to £9 million, over the next three years.
The revolutionary wind turbine is expected to provide 30% of the electricity needs of an average semi-detached house and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.8 tonnes per year. Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, told the PA: “While the product will be of interest to customers who are particularly interested in environmental issues, it should, in the future, also provide ongoing cost savings for all customers. “We expect to begin marketing an expanded range of energy savings, including rooftop turbines, in the course of this year.”
lIT IS planned to build a sandwich takeaway shop in High Street, Auchterarder. It will sell pastries, cakes, ice cream and sandwiches, and have opening hours of 8am-6pm. lIT IS also proposed to open a cafe in Market Square, Alyth.
