"This is a great opportunity to showcase the UK’s advances in renewable energy. Following our recent announcement of the next phase of offshore wind power expansion, the UK is rapidly developing a dynamic wind energy market. Wind power is vital in pour long-term energy policy set out in the recent White Paper. Wind will be the major factor in helping us to reach our target of generating 10% of our electricity from renewable sources by 2010 and a significant factor in reducing our carbon dioxide emissions by 60% by 2050", said Stephen Timms, UK Energy Minister. "Some 6GW of wind capacity, equivalent to £6 billion of investment, is predicted to be built in the UK by 2010. We’ve got the best wind resource in Europe and the arrival of EWEC is a major indicator that this will be a critical new market for Europe", said Marcus Rand, CEO, British Wind Energy Association.
