Locals lose wind turbine battle in the UK
The 100 metre high turbines will be built by the company Renewable Energy Systems on land at Wryde Croft. Peterborough City Council voted six to four in favour of the proposals at a meeting on Monday afternoon. The proposals had been opposed by local people who said the wind farm will cause noise pollution and spoil the Fenland landscape.
The group Fenland Against Rural Turbines say they do not want turbines built so close to houses and will carry on making their views known. However, a survey by the British Wind Energy Association suggests that three-quarters of Britons believe wind farms are necessary to help meet demand for energy.
