Vestas has secured a service-contract extension for 10 years from EDP Renewables NA for the Blue Canyon I and II wind power plants near Carnegie, Okla.

Blue Canyon I includes 45 Vestas model NM72 wind turbines at 1.65 MW each which began producing energy in 2003. Blue Canyon II consists of 84 V80-1.8 MW turbines that were completed in 2005. Combined, the two sites total 225 MW and is Oklahoma’s largest wind farm.

“We are pleased to continue our strong partnership with EDP Renewables,” said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc. “The service contract ensures job stability for about 25 Vestas employees in Oklahoma who provide maintenance for these turbines.”

Under the agreements, Vestas will provide a full range of services to maximize the energy production of the turbines. The contract includes Vestas’ Active Output Management (AOM) 4000 service option. AOM 4000 guarantees a defined turbine availability and productivity, and ensures the highest possible output at all times. The services also consist of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance as well as replacement of major components and spare parts.

The turbines at Blue Canyon I and II produce enough energy for about 61,000 homes in Oklahoma each year.
