Canada – Farmers are invited to consider wind as a source of energy

The farming community in Canada would greatly benefit from the initiative

The association is encouraging farmers to consider leasing their land, or developing their own wind-energy project. The Superior Renewable Energy Cooperative would like to attract farmers to its initiative but president Charles Campbell says a separate wind-project would not hurt their efforts. Campbell says among the areas they'll be studying as a possible site for a wind-turbine is in the Slate River Valley. The cooperative is currently seeking financial assistance to conduct a number of studies that will determine the project's viability. It's hoping to complete that work within the next two years.

Area farmers are being encouraged to consider wind-energy. Two proponents of using wind as a means of electrical-generation say the farming community would greatly benefit from the initiative. A number of farmers from across northwestern Ontario gathered at the Founders Museum to learn more about wind-energy. The session was headed by acting executive director of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, Paul Gipe.
