ARGENTINA

5 new projects to be developed

First one is being developed by a group of Italian investors led by Valerio Catullo, the initiative, called Montes de Oro Wind Project will produce an output of 20 MW through eight wind turbines installed in an area of 105 hectares in Cañas, Guanacaste.

In "Guayabo de Bagaces" three companies move with permits to take into operation the projects: Eolico Guayabo, Los Leones and El Quixote. Eolico Guayabo would have 50 wind turbines located in the hills of Mogote. Developed by two companies: Venfor and Fila del Mogot D CR whose president is, in both cases, Gustavo Echeverri. Los Leones project is going to be developed by Coopeguanacaste and would be in the hills of the same name. The idea is to generate 27 MW and its entry into operation could happen in late 2013 or early 2014. In the case of El Quixote is a plan developed by the Public Service Company of Heredia (ESPH), also in Mogote.

The fifth project is called Volcan Arenal (PEVASA) and would be settled in Tierras Morenas, Tilarán. This one is led by Rogelio Murillo Urbina and eventually ESPH might participate.

HONDURAS

Firsts wind turbines arriving to the Cerro de Hula site

The first towers and blades of wind turbines arrived to Henecán port in San Lorenzo. With the arrival of the six towers and 33 blades speeds up the goal of generating 102 MW of wind power. The installation of the towers started simultaneously with the continued opening of roads and civil works in the municipalities of Santa Ana and San Buenaventura. The project is progressing by leaps and bounds, with the goal of generating clean energy in mid-December. Joseph Moran, Development Manager Wind Energy Company of Honduras (EEH), said energizing the substation is planned in June,
which was conducted the first tests of wind generation in the largest campus in Central America. The turbines arrived disassembled into four sections of towers, which measure between 11 and 25 meters each and weigh between 25 and 60 tons. In addition, there were blades, three for each turbine, totaling 33, to complete 11 machines and six towers.

BRAZIL

Vestas has signed an order for a total capacity of 80 MW

The order comprises 40 units of the 2 MW platform turbines for the following three projects: Olho D'agua, Sao Bento do Norte and Farol located at Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil. The order has been placed by Galvao Energia, a Brazilian company dedicated to the development, installation and operation of plants that generate electricity by means of renewable sources. Delivery of the turbines is expected to start in Q3 2012 and the projects are expected to be completed in December 2012. Otávio Ferreira da Silveira, President and CEO of Galvao Energia S.A. declares:
"... The 2MW is a reliable and efficient platform and we have good expectations about its performance on these specific sites." Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean concludes "In the past two years, we have seen an increasing interest in wind in Brazil, as a clean, competitive and predictable energy source. Wind can help Brazil diversify its energy mix complementing the already existing energy sources...".

URUGUAY

Wind energy development on the road

Since December 2008, with the installation of the first wind farm owned by UTE, located in the Sierra de los Caracoles, a few miles north of San Carlos, Maldonado, the country has installed state-of the art technology able to meet the hard requirements for electrical systems required for the entry of major powers of wind generation. Kentilux added 10 MW and UTE recently granted the companies Consorcio Venti, Palmatir Fingano SA and Fingano SA permission to build its wind farms of 50 MW of power at Lavalleja, Cerro Catedral and Cuchilla de Peralta, respectively. Companies have
three years to build the wind farms. The new tender for 150 MW wind farm based on a minimum of 30 MW and a maximum of 100 MW wind farms just approved by UTE. Besides this, there is project for 200 MW on which UTE seeks to participate in joint venture partnership with a private company to complete the 500 MW of installed capacity based on wind energy in 2015.

COSTA RICA

Los Santos wind farm

The Wind Project Los Santos (PE Los Santos) will take the wind energy in the area of Los Santos, specifically to 40 kilometers from the capital, San José, on the South InterAmericana Highway. The owner of this project is the Rural Electrification Cooperative of Los Santos, R. L. (Coopesanta), founded 46 years ago to provide the electricity distribution services in the area of Los Santos and Caraigres. Basic studies began with measurements from October 2001 to present, finding that the
wind has an average speed of about 10 m / s, making it a qualified site worldwide as a Class I for wind generation.

CHILE

Additional 240 MW pendant for approval

The Irish company Mainstream Renewable Power requested approval to regulators of Chile to build a 500 million dollars wind farm at a time when the country seeks to expand its energy sources by a tight supply. Chile's environmental authorities must evaluate whether the plan is viable or not and then have 90 days to communicate the final decision. Mainstream expects to start building the wind farm in January 2013 in a place called Ckani, which is located about 45 kilometers (28 Miles) Northeast of the city of Calama in Northern Chile, according to the schedule submitted to the Environmental Assessment Service. The wind farm would have an installed capacity of 240 MW, with 160 wind turbines adding energy into the Northern Interconnected System (SING), which provides electricity to Chile's strong mining sector.
