Pakistan - Agreement for a 49.5 MW wind farm signed in Jhampir in the district of Thatta Sindh

The wind energy project will open doors for more Chinese investments in the sector

The Three Gorges First Wind Farm Project (Pvt.) Ltd signed their offshore and on shore Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contract with M/s China Huashui Development Corporation (CHHD) and M/s China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE) respectively for their first wind farm of 49.5MW, located in Jhampir, district Thatta Sindh.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Riaz Ahmad, Special Secretary Ministry of Water & Power and Arif Alauddin, CEO AEDB, alongwith a number of heads / senior representatives of various Chinese financial institutions and companies. The contractors would supply and install Goldwind wind turbines, which are known to amongst a few leading wind turbine manufacturers in the world.

Arif Alauddin speaking on the occasion appreciated the Chinese company for the speedy development and implementation of their first wind farm project in Pakistan. He applauded the Three Gorges First Wind Farm Project (Pvt.) Ltd for their venture in Pakistan, which was also a great support from the Chinese friends to Pakistani people facing acute power shortages. He said that the company has opened bright avenues for Goldwind turbines in Pakistan, which is one of the few leading wind turbine manufacturers in the world. He hoped swift transfer of technology related to manufacturing of wind turbines components in Pakistan.

Wang Shenhang of the Three Gorges First Wind Farm Project (Pvt.) Ltd speaking on the occasion said that China stood shoulder to shoulders with Pakistan in overcoming their energy shortages. He hailed the Government of Pakistan, especially AEDB for their all out support in developing and implementing their first wind farm on fast track basis.

This wind energy project, he added, would open doors for more Chinese investments in the sector. He said that the project is cooperation between Pakistan and Chinese investors. He said that the project would also open doors of local development in the area, providing employment opportunities to the local youth. Wang Shenhang said that their company would achieve the level of COD (Commercial Operation Date) and hence would lead a number of wind projects in pipeline in Pakistan.

It may be mentioned that the China Three Gorges Corporation signed a MOU for the development 2000 MW wind power farms and 300 MW solar power parks in Pakistan in December 2010 in Islamabad during the visit of the Chinese Premier to Pakistan. Yan Xinde and Wang Jianfeng signed the contracts on behalf of CWE and CHHD.
