Exhibition Ticker - International Small Wind Turbines Systems Conference and Exhibition Opens

As financial incentives make investment in small wind turbines highly attractive, more than 350 delegates gather to attend the World's largest get together of small wind exhibitors

A conference and exhibition demonstrating the huge benefits of small wind power systems opens in Gateshead. The two-day event is organised by RenewableUK, the country's leading voice for the renewable energy industry. It has attracted more than 350 people, many of whom are speaking at the event, holding free seminars and exhibiting state-of-the-art turbines.

Opening the event, Maria McCaffrey MBE, Chief Executive of RenewableUK, said:

"We're very proud to be here in the North East – a region which has done so much to develop renewable energy. This is our third annual Small Wind Systems conference. It is important to give people an opportunity to tap into the knowledge and advice of experts from across the small wind energy industry. Even for a modest investment, a good return is guaranteed quickly, thanks to the highly attractive financial incentives on offer for those who want to take part in the UK's green energy revolution."

RenewableUK anticipates that the present number of 15,000 small wind turbines across the country could expand to hundreds of thousands by 2020. The Government has guaranteed payments for electricity generated by small turbine owners for the next 20 years, encouraging widespread interest from farmers, landowners, schools and households.

Indre Vaizgelaite, Small Wind Systems Manager at RenewableUK said: "This type of event gives people a real chance to do their bit to generate clean, green energy - members of the public can take practical steps to reduce global warming by installing small wind turbines. The conference will show people how they work, and give an outline of the economic benefits of generating your own electricity."

RenewableUK is the trade and professional body for the UK wind energy and marine renewables industries. Formed in 1978, and with 650 corporate members, RenewableUK is the leading renewable energy trade association in the UK.

International Small Wind Conference (ISWC) is being held at The Sage, St Mary's Square, Gateshead Quays, Gateshead, NE8 2JR.
