Following this unpredicted success, another tender has been announced for additional 150 MW of wind turbines.

A tender in Uruguay will award wind farm contracts for 150 MW. There were 22 proposals, submitted by 15 participants, totalizing a capacity of 950 MW.

Considering the unpredicted success of this tender, the government of Montevideo has announced that it will launch another request for proposals for additional 150 MW.

The tender regarded wind farms having a capacity of 30 to 50 MW each, to be installed in the departments of Cerro Largo, Florida, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Montevideo, San José and Tacuarembó. The winning projects will be granted a 30-year electricity supply contract.

The 22 wind farm projects were admitted to the tender based on their technical proposals (including type of wind turbines, capacity and site location). Proposals regarding rates have not been opened and are in the hands of UTE, the public utility in charge of electricity generation and transmission, which will now decide upon the winning projects.
