Canada - NaiKun Wind Energy Group welcomes BC Hydro's clean power call

Underscoring British Columbia's commitment to meeting its growing energy needs with clean, renewable power sources

NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc. ("NaiKun") welcomed the release today of BC Hydro's Clean Power Call Request for Proposals ("RFP"), which underscores the province's commitment to meeting B.C.'s growing energy needs with clean, renewable power sources.

"We welcome BC Hydro's Clean Power Call, as it will allow our company to move closer to developing our offshore wind energy project," said Paul Taylor, President of NaiKun Wind Energy Group. "BC Hydro has reframed the Clean Power Call as a RFP, which will provide us even greater flexibility to reflect the unique attributes of our clean energy project."

NaiKun's project is in line with many of the priorities identified in BC Hydro's Clean Power Call RFP, including the need for clean, renewable energy using proven technologies. Offshore wind generates renewable energy with no emissions and utilizes proven, world-class technology. BC Hydro's call is reflective of the need for larger projects such as NaiKun's, which has the capacity to deliver 320 MW of clean, renewable energy.

NaiKun is proposing to build Canada's first offshore wind project in Hecate Strait off the north coast of British Columbia. The project would produce enough energy to power 120,000 homes, nearly one quarter of the power called for in BC Hydro's RFP.

"Our team of experienced energy experts, engineers, project managers and other specialists are focused on preparing a competitive bid and we are confident in our ability to obtain an energy-purchase agreement with BC Hydro," said Mr. Taylor. In addition, our team continues to work on other important aspects of the project, such as the environmental assessment, site engineering, transmission planning, and design," He added that these elements are progressing according to the company's project timeline.

"We continue to support BC Hydro and the provincial government's commitment to ensuring that alternative energy solutions are aligned with the province's goal of developing the clean and renewable energy that B.C. needs and that British Columbians want," said Mr. Taylor. "Tackling climate change and finding clean energy solutions is top-of-mind for residents of this province and indeed for all Canadians. NaiKun is committed to creating a wind-energy project that would contribute to solving these important issues."
