Nexans will contribute to the energy transition in Italy with ERG’s repowering wind project in Sicily
Nexans has been awarded a 6 million Euro contract to supply ERG, Italy’s leading company in the wind power sector, with a complete package of cables, accessories and engineering services to repower four onshore wind farms in Sicily (143 MW). These farms should produce 330 GWh per year, representing consumption of 100,000 houses and 166,000 tons of CO2 emissions avoided each year. The announcement continues the longstanding relationship between the companies as they look to help develop wind energy across Italy.
Nexans will provide more than 400 kilometers of directly buried shockproof MV cables with 33kV accessories, which improve the project’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and reduce environmental impact. Nexans will also provide engineering services to optimize the farm's collector design and connection to the grid.
Nexans’ ULTRACKER services will be implemented during this project for the first time in Italy: This digital solution will allow ERG to visualize in real time cable deliveries and drum location on site, as well as monitor farm installation progress.
ERG has chosen Nexans’ advanced cable technologies, fast delivery time and extensive offering of accessories and services alongside its cables. Nexans is ERG’s long-term partner in the Italian wind power sector in the context of Italy’s government supported National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
“Nexans’ advanced cable solutions, accessories and services provide our customers with transparent and smooth cable installation. Not only does this help put customers’ minds at ease, it’s also another example of our cutting-edge technology and ongoing commitment to R&D. ERG is a leading business in the Italian wind power sector and our ongoing partnership with them is just another step in Nexans’ journey to contribute to the energy transition and sustainable electrification in Italy,” says Giovanni Fenoglio,CEO & Sales Director Nexans Italia.
The cables will be manufactured at Nexans’ Battipaglia plant in the south of Italy, while the accessories will be manufactured at Nexans’ Offida plant located on the East coast of Italy. The contract is scheduled to take place between May and October 2022.
Through this contract, Nexans will secure its position as a state-of-the-art partner and a key player in Italy’s energy transition to renewable and sustainable sources.
