Wind Industry Profile of
Greek wind farm takes shape
Iberdrola said that an average of 75 jobs will be created during the construction phase, and up to 150 jobs during peak periods. The wind farm will have 12 wind turbines with a capacity of 4.2 MW, with 70-meter rotor blades and a rotor diameter of 150 meters.
To transport the rotor blades the blade-lifter technology was chosen minimizing the environmental impact associated with the transportation of these components, in line with Iberdrola's commitment to sustainability in all its activities. This method is based on a 10-axle trailer with an articulated platform that can not only rotate but also tilt vertically so that it can be moved along existing roads and rails. In this way, no additional access roads need to be built and the impact on the environment and landscape is reduced.
Iberdrola expects to complete the work next fall, avoiding the frequent snowfalls that normally occur in the region during the winter months. In addition to this challenge, the works are conditioned by the steepness of the terrain and the difficult weather conditions in the high mountains.
In addition to Askio III, Iberdrola is also building the 33.6 MW Mikronoros wind farm (at Rhodopi) in Greece and plans to start construction this year on the 18 MW Rokani wind farm (at Viotia), which will have the largest wind turbines available, and the 37.8 MW Askio II wind farm, also in Kozani.
