RPS LiDAR buoy deployed off Poland for Equinor and Polenergia offshore wind project
The RPS metocean team has successfully deployed one of our Floating LiDAR buoys in the Baltic Sea north of Poland. They were tasked with supplying the metocean buoy, including measurement equipment, by the MFW Baltyk I project under development by a JV consisting of Equinor and Polenergia in Poland. RPS managed the entire deployment, from logistics, assembly, testing to launch, as well as sourcing the deployment vessel. The buoy will measure wind resource data above the sea surface as part of the one-year wind resource measurement project.
The deployment continues the further expansion of RPS capability and capacity in the European region, supported by a new metocean centre in the UK. For this project, we were also ably supported by our Polish local partner, MEWO, and drew on their experience and commitment to quality and safety.
The RPS buoy has become known as a leader in data quality and availability, as well as having a proven robust design and built-in redundancy features. The design is tailored for each deployment, based on the offshore conditions the buoys are likely to encounter. In addition, the wind profile assessment for this project is customised to the wind turbine hub height, providing our client with more relevant data to inform their design parameters.
Anthony Gaffney, RPS MetOcean Director - EAME, said, “Our team is pleased to support the development of Polish offshore wind through our metocean expertise. We are very excited to be a part of this important measurement project, supported locally by our increasing presence in Europe.”
