Deutsche Windtechnik US will address the biggest challenge facing renewable industry today: Finding experienced technicians. The acquisition also includes existing customer contracts, including 50 MW of Mitsubishi (MHI) wind turbines under long term service agreements. All 38 employees of this section will join Deutsche Windtechnik.

The acquisition of Cooke Power Services will support market demand for transactional work and increase Deutsche Windtechnik’s MHI capabilities. Paul Cooke, owner of Cooke Power Ser-vices, underlined the challenge of meeting the technical requirements when it comes to O&M for wind turbines. He says: ‘It was the right time to transfer our team and service capabilities to Deutsche Windtechnik as jointly they will form a unique unit to provide high quality O&M services to MHI wind turbine owners in the US reaching from maintenance and repair services to full scope agreements, which is in the best interest of the employees and asset owners’. Cooke Power Services will continue operating their business segments ‘High Voltage’ and ‘Substation Construction’.

Steady growth in the US market

Deutsche Windtechnik US has experienced tremendous growth since it signed its first long-term service agreement in April 2019. It reached the 1 GW milestone in August 2020 account-ing for 1.6 GW, now servicing Siemens, MHI, NEG Micon, GE, and Nordex wind turbines. In the fourth quarter of 2021, a new service center will open in Amarillo, Texas, strategically located in the heart of wind assets in the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, and Colorado.

Increasing expertise improving client satisfaction

Melf Lorenzen, CEO of Deutsche Windtechnik US, is convinced that all parties will benefit from the transition: ‘We are excited to welcome true wind turbine experts to our growing team. Pairing the expertise and experience on MHI wind turbines by former Cooke employees with our existing business in the US will lead to an improved client satisfaction as we can better cover all O&M requirements for this platform whether a la carte repair or inclusive long term agreements.’ More service contracts and plans for team expansions are already in the pipeline for Deutsche Windtechnik US.
