REpower participates in call for tender of Hydro Québec Distribution in Canada
Being partner of a consortium, REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) participates in the tender of the energy supplier Hydro Québec Distribution Tender (HQD) in the Canadian province of Québec. For this purpose, REpower, the third largest German manufacturer of wind turbines of the megawatt class, has just concluded an agreement with the consortium which is composed of three companies: EDF Energies Nouvelles (a subsidiary of the electric utility EDF), Renewable Energy Systems Canada (international project developer) and Hydroméga Services (a Québecois project developer). On 18 September, this consortium submitted a bid with a total power of more than 1,000 megawatts which shall exclusively be covered by REpower turbines of the 2 megawatt class (MM82 and MM92).
What is particular: The wind power stations offered by REpower for the tender are a so-called cold climate version and are thus suitable for a successful operation even on sites with extremely low temperatures. Moreover, featuring 60 Hz, they are compatible with the North American power grid and thus comply with the conditions imposed by HQD.
The decision about the placing of the order is expected for the first half of 2008. At least 30 per cent of the turbines have to be produced in the Québecois region, the predicted production and installation period shall be between 2011 und 2015.
„We are pleased to participate in this call for tender together with this strong consortium, amongst others with our client EDF Energies Nouvelles“, commented REpower’s CEO Prof. Dr. Fritz Vahrenholt on the submitted bid who is just attending the world’s largest wind fair HUSUMwind. „In the US, we have been active in terms of huge wind park projects for a fairly long time. Winning the tender in Canada would be an important step for our further expansion on the whole promising North American market”.
