Wind Industry Profile of

AWEA Wind Power - Finance & Investment Workshop

October 10 - 11, 2007 in New York, NY

Dear Fellow Wind Energy Professionals,

On behalf of the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), and because of your continued commitment to the wind industry, I would like personally to invite you to attend AWEA’s Wind Power Finance & Investment Workshop to be held October 10 – 11, 2007 at The Roosevelt Hotel in New York City.

I am honored to have been asked to serve as chairperson for this workshop, and am very excited about the program we have put together. When I worked many years ago for Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D.-New York), he had a simple rule of thumb for speeches: Tell the audience things that it has not already heard. We have tried to find topics that have not been covered at other conferences. The focus will be on new developments.

For example, the IRS is expected to issue new guidelines this fall for partnership flip transactions. Ask questions of the key IRS and Treasury officials about them. There is a danger that the energy bill that is the current vehicle in Congress for extending production tax credits will bog down. Hear directly from the key tax counsels for the House and Senate tax-writing committees about the outlook for extending them. Listen to a panel of prominent lawyers, equity investors and lenders talk about a "top 10 list" of current issues in wind deals. Participate in a roundtable discussion among the big four accounting firms as we strive for a consensus about the proper accounting treatment for partnership flip deals; there is none currently. Government policy has been important to development of the wind business in the United States, and changes in policy are potential "pivot points" that make winners and losers. Hear from industry lobbyists and reporters who cover Capitol Hill about several pivot-point issues that are currently in play.

We expect a very substantive program, but this is also a great opportunity to meet lots of key players in the US wind market. The same conference last year attracted a capacity audience of more than 320 people. Maybe it was the location on Wall Street, but it was an unusually sophisticated audience. Come join us in October in New York .

To register or learn more about the workshop, please visit the AWEA website at http://www.awea.org/events/finance2007oct/ or call (202) 383-2512. Register by September 17 to save!

Why Attend AWEA Events when there are other Finance Events on the Market?

The revenue generated from AWEA events is put right back into services that promote and advance the wind industry. Examples include promoting favorable policies (such as the PTC and RPS) through work with our government legislators, wind visibility campaigns, communicating and educating America on the benefits of wind energy, addressing environmental concerns, pushing for advanced transmission access for wind, and many others. Unlike other wind events organized by for-profit companies, AWEA puts your dollars to work on advancing the wind energy industry.
