Wind Industry Profile of

Update on COVID-19 situation

Three of Statkraft's construction projects has been temporarily put on hold due to the COVID-19 outbreak, while the remaining projects continue. Here is a status update on our largest projects.

Statkraft is, together with our contractors closely monitoring the development of the COVID-19 outbreak and is taking continuous measures in line with the advice of national health authorities. We continually assess how our construction projects should react to the spread of the virus and the subsequent impacts, as well as planning ahead for different scenarios.

The decisions to put some of the construction projects on hold is in line with Statkraft's commitment to the safety and well-being of people on site. It also provides the best way to ensure the value of the asset is retained.

At the moment, the COVID-19 outbreak situation is too unpredictable to assess when it will be safe to restart work at sites that has been temporarily closed and any economic consequences of the delays.

Tidong project works put on hold

As a consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak, Statkraft has decided to put the 100 MW Tidong hydropower project in India on hold. All Statkraft staff and contractors’ personnel were informed and a hibernation plan was put in motion by the project team on Saturday 21 March.

While the project is on hold an adequate emergency and security staff will remain on site.

Los Lagos project works on hold

As a consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak, Statkraft has decided to put the 52 MW Los Lagos hydropower project in Chile on hold. Civil works at site will be paused, and a hibernation plan will be executed this week. While the project is on hold an adequate emergency and security staff will remain on site.

Moglice project works continues

The 184 MW Moglice hydropower project in Albania is continuing. The construction works are completed, and the project is now in the final process of commissioning and we expect commercial operations to start in Q2-2020.

Windy Rig construction site closed

The civil works contractor has confirmed that the 43 MW Windy Rig wind farm construction site in Scotland will be closed as a consequence of the UK government's new measures to fight the spread of COVID-19.

The site compound has already been established and the construction of internal site roads has commenced.

Construction of the Fosen Vind projects continues

Construction of Europe's largest onshore wind power project in Central-Norway continues

Three out of Fosen Vind’s six wind farms are in operation. The plan is to have the remaining three wind farms in operation by the end of the year. Turbine supplier Vestas is preparing to complete the developments with erection of 100 turbines from Easter onwards.

The development pace will be adapted to the government restrictions considering the COVID-19 situation. Mobilization of personnel will take place gradually and is planned in close dialogue with suppliers, the municipal administration and local health authorities. All activities and measures are planned with regard to infection control and to the safety of both staff and locals. Deliveries of turbine parts to the quay facilities and storage sites will be carried out according to original plan, while measures and precautions to prevent the spread of contamination such as national quarantine regulations will push the start of transport and assembly of turbines with a few weeks.

Statkraft is responsible for project execution on behalf of Fosen Vind. The joint venture is owned by the Norwegian utilities TrønderEnergi and Statkraft, and the European investor consortium Nordic Wind Power DA.
