Statkraft supplies NATURSTROM with green electricity from German solar park
Statkraft and NATURSTROM have signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 20 MWp. Statkraft will supply electricity from its German solar portfolio to NATURSTROM for eleven and a half years. The Düsseldorf-based green energy provider will use the solar power to supply private customers.
The electricity comes from the Bavarian solar park Parsberg Eichensee, for which Statkraft signed a power purchase agreement last year. Physical delivery will start as early as May 2020 and Statkraft will supply a total of approximately 237 gigawatt hours of solar power to NATURSTROM until the end of the term in December 2031. The agreed contract model guarantees NATURSTROM complete price flexibility, so that they can seamlessly integrate the solar power volumes into its usual procurement strategy.
"This contract shows that it is possible in Germany to use electricity from subsidy-free solar parks of this size for tailor-made green electricity supplies on a large scale", says Dr. Carsten Poppinga, Managing Director of Statkraft in Germany. "We are pleased to have found in NATURSTROM a partner that stands for sustainable electricity supply in Germany to jointly drive the energy transition."
And Oliver Hummel, member of the board at NATURSTROM AG, adds: "In the future, green electricity from new, large solar parks will be used to directly supply household and commercial customers - completely without EEG subsidies. In this way, we are overcoming the previous two-track approach of green electricity generation and supply. A new era is dawning in the German electricity market."
