Bladt Gears Up for Monopile and Transition Piece Fabrication for Northwester 2

The contract for 23 WTG monopiles and transitions pieces and the contract for 1 monopile and transition piece foundation for the substation is a testament to Bladt Industries’ strategy as a One-Stop-Shop in terms of being the preferred partner in the offshore wind industry for delivery of monopiles, transitions pieces, jackets foundations, and substations.

The contracts for the foundations follow a couple of months after Bladt Industries signed an EPCI contract with Parkwind for the delivery of the substation to Northwester 2.

‘We are delighted to have secured these contracts in addition to the contract for the substation, and that Parkwind and Jan De Nul have shown us the confidence to provide the monopiles and transitions pieces for the Northwester 2 project’’ CEO, Bladt Industries, Klaus Steen Mortensen says and continues; ‘We appreciate the close cooperation with Parkwind and Jan De Nul and look forward to strengthening our relationship even further during this project.’

Preliminary work on the foundations project will commence 1 November 2018. Until then, Bladt Industries will initiate a design optimisation process together with Parkwind and Jan De Nul with the aim of lowering the cost of the foundations.

This design optimisation process is in line with Bladt Industries’strategic focus on contributing to lowering Cost of Energy. Amongst other initiatives, Bladt Industries has developed a concept called ’Design for Manufacturing and Assembly’ with the intention of reducing the overall cost of foundations.

‘We are very excited to work with Parkwind and Jan De Nul in optimising the foundations design for the Northwester 2 project, and we strongly believe that such cooperation and partnerships is the way forward for the industry in relation to lowering the Cost of Energy’ Vice President, Bladt Industries, Lars Bender says

Bladt Industries will fabricate both monopiles and transition pieces in Aalborg. The monopiles have a diameter of up to 8 metres, a length of up to 82 metres, and a weight of up to app. 1000 tonnes. The transition pieces have a diameter of up to 6.8 metres, a length of app. 20 metres, and a weight of 189 tonnes.

Northwester 2 is controlled and developed by Parkwind NV, who is in charge of the construction of the park. The park will be installed in the Belgian part of the North Sea about 46 km off the Belgian coast. The park will have a total capacity of 219 MW.
