USA / Canada - AWEA and CanWEA annouce mutual first-time event focused on wind resource assessment

Date: September 13 - 14, 2006 / Location: Syracuse, New York

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) are pleased to announce additional details for a first-time event focused on wind resource assessment. Taking place September 13 - 14, 2006 in Syracuse, NY, this two-day workshop will examine every step of wind resource assessment - from measurement to modeling - and how this information is translated into wind turbine selection and energy output prediction.

Suitable for the novice and expert alike, the workshop will also feature cutting edge technology and tackle challenging issues such as project financing considerations and probable causes of project underperformance.

Are You Mystified By:

• The growing choices for mast-mounted and remote-sensing instrumentation?
• Wind flow models and how they integrate local data?
• Long-term energy production prediction and uncertainty analysis?
• How wind characteristics impact wind turbine suitability and project economics?

Then this is the workshop for you

Why should you attend?

Investors and financiers looking to fund wind projects want the best possible answer to the following question: how accurately can wind patterns and speed, and therefore project output, be forecast?

This workshop on recent major advancements in resource assessment techniques will answer this question. Experts will discuss the margins of uncertainty within which wind farm output can be forecast, and the latest measurement tools and techniques used to determine what the wind resource is like at heights of 80 - 100 meters, the height now reached by utility-scale wind turbines.

What are the workshop topics?

• The Role of Resource Assessment in Project Siting, Planning & Financing
• Understanding the Wind: The Causes of Wind and Its Variability
• Measurement: Information You Need & How to Collect It
• Translating Data into Results: Analysis and Interpretation of Data
• The Role of Wind Flow Modeling & Mapping
• Matching Wind Turbines to the Resource: Turbine Design & Warranty Parameters
• Turbine Array Design & Energy Production Prediction
• Operational Assessments
• Reducing Energy Assessment Uncertainty
• Financing Considerations
• Resource Issues During Commercial Operation
• Challenges in Resource Assessment and How to Address Them
• Bonus Clinics: Hands-on Experience with Actual Equipment
