Wind Industry Profile of

US Helps Zambia Tap Wind Energy

During this week’s Africa Energy Forum, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) signed a grant aimed at increasing electricity access in Zambia in Southern Africa.

The money will be used to conduct a study on the deployment of containerized minigrid units in rural and peri-urban districts across the country. It is expected to result in the deployment of solar units with battery storage mini-grids.

Furthermore, the money will be used to install the first wind farm of 130-140 MW in Zambia.

USTDA is pleased to help introduce U.S. technology to Zambia, increasing access to reliable electricity and supporting the Zambian government in diversifying its energy generation mix,” said USTDA’s Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Director, Lida Fitts.
