Full (Wind) Power ahead: 228 MW Wind Farm in Wales Gears up

The 228 MW wind farm near Welsh capital Cardiff consists of 76 onshore wind turbines of the type Siemens SWT-3.0-101 and now supplies electricity for 180,000 households after its complete commissioning.

Gunnar Groebler, Senior Vice President and Director of the Wind Division at Vattenfall, emphasizes: "The fact that our largest onshore wind project, Pen y Cymoedd, is now fully integrated into the grid is another milestone for the Vattenfall strategy to promote climate-friendly energy solutions free of fossil fuels. In addition to its considerable size, the wind farm has a further special feature: Vattenfall's largest battery storage project so far is also being built at the site in Wales. It is expected that by 2018, Vattenfall will build a 22-megawatt battery, which will help to support the stability of the country-wide power grid in the UK as part of the so-called Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) service. In the summer of 2016, Vattenfall was awarded the contract by the state-owned British transmission grid operator National Grid.
