Kazakhstan: Wind Prospect Wins First Kazakhstan Contract

Following a recent competitive tender process, Wind Prospect, a leading global independent technical and engineering renewable energy consultancy company, has been successfully awarded its first services contract in Kazakhstan.

Wind Prospect will provide construction project management and turbine procurement services on a sub-contract basis to 3E, a leading Energy, Ecology, and Engineering consultancy company, for the 50MW Yereymentau wind farm on behalf of Kazakhstan’s national energy firm JSC Samruk-Energo.

Yereymentau wind farm, located 150km east of Astana, marks Wind Prospect’s first piece of work in Kazakhstan where the team will be based onsite to deliver tender preparation and management of the EPC contract, turbine supply, and construction management services over a two and a half year period.

In November 2014, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) agreed to finance the project, which became the first power generation project to secure funding from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF).

Bruce Allan, Wind Prospect’s Construction and Operations Director, said “We are delighted to be able to play a part in supporting the development Kazakhstan’s nascent renewable energy industry. We look forward to sharing our expertise and experience gained over two decades in global renewable energy development, construction, operation and advisory services to deliver a highly successful project in partnership with 3E.”

3E project manager, Philip Ward, said “We selected Wind Prospect as our partner of choice on the strength of their track record in the industry and their ability to bolster the skills and expertise provided throughout by 3E. We look forward to working together throughout this crucial phase in the project lifecycle to ultimately ensure the future prosperity of Kazakhstan as a world leader in renewables.”

Having operated within the area for five years, 3E will deliver unrivaled experience and knowledge of local grid connection and distribution needs to provide expertise in permitting and approvals, logistics and supply chain, as well as practical on-the-ground support whilst over-seeing the management of the overall project. Construction is expected to commence in June 2016 with completion anticipated 12 to 24 months later.

Together with partners Wind Prospect, 3E recently won a contract to provide wind monitoring services to Alpha Centre, a recognised service/supply company who represent wind monitoring equipment manufactures and erect/install monitoring masts throughout the territory of Kazakhstan.
