Adwen’s 5 MW wind turbine reaches a yearly output of 22,8 GWh

The Adwen 5 MW offshore wind turbine installed in Gran Canaria has reached a new milestone, exceeding 33 GWh produced.

Yearly production of this prototype unit in the period from 1 June 2014 to 1 June 2015 hit 22.800 MWh, equivalent to 4.560 hours producing at 5MW nominal power. The predecessor of Adwen’s AD 5-132 (formerly G132-5MW) was installed in July 2013 with a 128 meter rotor.

Average power throughout that year was more than 2,6 MW with a capacity factor above 52% beating industry standards. The wind turbine has also been achieving commercial rates of availability since its commissioning; one year average value exceeded 96%.

Such excellent results enabled type certification in record time and evidences the high performance expected of the product, targeted to meet demanding offshore market needs.

The yearly output surpasses that of any other wind turbine installed in Spain and is sufficient to meet the electricity needs of 6.500 average Spanish households.
